Florida Does Early DTV Test

Do you really know if your TV is ready for the February 2009 digital transition? Will you lose your signal or will the switch not interrupt your television viewing?

A segment of Orlando, Florida's residents can definitively answer those questions. Last week 12 broadcasting stations in Orlando, performed a DTV test that caused minimal interruption to viewers.

They aired a 60-second on-air message at 7:59 p.m. that included 10 seconds in which the stations stopped transmitting their analog signals. Viewers that are DTV ready saw a screen confirming they had passed the test. Those with television sets that only receive an analog signal saw a black screen.

Wouldn't it be great if more broadcasting stations around the nation would take that initiative and do an early DTV test?

For more details about the DTV test, read the article at Broadcasting & Cable.

That's actually a very clever way to alert people to the change and whether or not they're ready for it. Kudos, Sunshine State.
